Daniels sculpture classes are divided into two sections; animal sculpture and human sculpture.

The Medium – Keep open creative doors by working with oil-based clay. One of the keys to creativity is flexibility. This clay is functional and forgiving.

The Method – Explore all the possibilities by learning basic armature construction techniques that are flexible and scalable. Learning how to make an armature correctly will open doors that faulty technique kept closed, release your imagination into three dimensions and keep your creation rock steady.

What You Will Create – A fully realized model of a horse or human starting from the skeleton and ending up with all the major muscle groups. An incredibly valuable reference. Learning essential keys to animal and human anatomy give believability to your creation. Even the most fantastic of creations have to look like they would “work” if they were real. Knowledge of “what goes where and connects to what else” will bring your creations to life.

Working from a live model gives the learning process a huge boost. Keen observation is the hallmark of most great sculptors. Fortunately, most animals as well as the human body are a variation of the same theme and pretty much have the same “parts”. We will use a live model during part of each series of classes.

Exploring casting options – If you would like to make a copy of your work Daniel will offer a class on that option or refer you to someone to do that for you.

Ongoing Classes will be offered to those students completing this series. The classes will focus on using what was learned to create a gallery quality finished work of art based on an animal or on the figure.

Thank you for the suggestion, knowing where I am at is probably pretty important if someone wants to take a class. Currently I am not teaching. I just finished teaching a clay class at the BIrmingham Art Museum and have no further classes planned.
I’m working on getting a web site up and will post a URL when it’s done.
